-------JUST CLICK ON THE MOVIE IMAGE ABOVE TO SEE A COMPILATOIN OF SHORT DIGITAL VIDEO TAKEN THE NIGHT OF THE STORM-------
A rare, Mother ship cloud formation hovers over Childress, Texas. Tornado-Chasers there covered seven hours and 150 miles (241 Kilometers) tracking the supercell thunderstorm that produced this cloud formation. Supercell thunderstorms are known to spawn tornados with winds exceeding 200 miles per hour (322 kilometers per hour) THIS ARTICLE FROM NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC See - http://science.nationalgeographic.com/science/wallpaper/texasmothershiptornado.html
The above picture was taken about an hour before the tornado hit, it appears as a giant saucer shaped cloud moving slowly over the center of Childress. We were on the roof taking pictures and enjoying the view of the weird clouds when the Tornado Warning came, it was rougly between 45 minutes to an hour when it finally did hit.
This picture was taken a little later, roughly 30 minutes prior to the Tornado, it appeared to be a finger shape dropping down out of the clouds. You can almost make out a funnel cloud to the right of the finger.
This picture was taken about 15 minutes prior to the tornado and looked even more strange than the others.
This swing was outside our sun room - The hail lasted so long and was driven by such high wind it completely destroyed the fabric on the cushions - We were accustomed to the high winds on the roof so we tied all our furniture down but never expected to see this
Our East facing windows - The top floor is our home, the rain, glass and hail entered as far as 20' into the house in the entry way, kitchen and laundry room driven by over 30 minutes of winds that at some points exceeded 90 miles per hour - The second floor was our office, we lost two computers that were running when the windows broke out and again sprayed hail, glass and rain more than 20 feet into our offices, we lost all data on those computers and all paperwork in files we had neatly stored in the light of our east windows - The garage on the bottom floor was just a garage, so no big problems when it flooded with hail, glass and rain there
Looking East out of our windows
Looking at the Damage
This is the roof of our sun room, what's very strange here is your looking at the north side of the room, notice the roof was torn off from the east - removing the east half of the roof, we found parts of the roof direclty south of our house about 600 feet. It was torn off during an east wind, how did it end up directly south if it wasn't a tornado.
310 Commerce Builiding next door to our house, notice the red brick wall is leaning out 8 inches at the top from the collapsed roof inside
